Cheap and easy silver tarnish remover

2014 will go down in history as the worst super bowl ever.

Enough said...

 

Anyways...

I got my hutch that I was excited about in my post here and have been brainstorming away as to how I was going to decorate it.

 

I came across a beautiful silver china set that is exactly what the doctor ordered!

 

 

It clearly has seen better days.

Believe it or not, Matt actually knew how to remove all the tarnish for...FREE!

Well, if you didn't have baking soda or aluminum foil in your home, this project would cost approx $5...totally doable!

 

I am totally new to how to clean silverware, but luckily for me... Matt clearly knew how! (He always surprises me).

 

How to remove tarnish from silver

 

 

You will need:

Baking Soda

Aluminum Foil

HOT water (boiling from the stove)

 

1.Get the silver that is in need of cleaning

 

 

2. Place tarnished silverware on the foil. It has to be in contact with the foil or it will not work.

 

 

 

3. Generously cover the silverware with baking soda.

 

 

 

4. Pour the HOT (boiling) water over the silverware

 

 

5. Enjoy your BEAUTIFUL sparkling silverware!

Propagating Succulents...Part 2

The weather in the valley is a little unreal.

By unreal I mean warm! T-Shirt weather in January

Will this make for an unbearable summer?

I sure hope not!

With all this warm weather, my succulents that I propagated a little while back (see post here) are doing amazing!

Each one of them has started to grow their roots.

Some are even ready to be potted!

That little dried up leaf is the original leaf that was placed on top of the soil in my previous post.

Once they look like this, they are ready for their new "home"

I bought a bunch a mini terracotta posts (I will soon share what I plan to do with them all soon! :) ) and that is what I planted the baby succulents into.

Be careful not to accidentally remove any of the roots! 

Spring is quickly approaching and I am so happy how well these little guys are doing!

Mine and Matt's big day is quickly approaching.

I am honestly at the "I am over this" stage already, ha!

WELL... not long ago we took our engagement pictures.

I didn't know people did that until I started my wedding board on pintrest.

I can be such a square at times when it comes to what is "trendy".

I am SO happy we decided to do them.

We don't really have nice pictures of us together.

If he isn't in a ball cap, I am, so to dress nice and have an AMAZING photographer has made for some nice pictures around this ranch house

China Hutch design attempt No. 1

My taste in home decor/design is a collaborated mismatch gathering of vintage, rustic (farm house) and the new trending term "Shabby Chic".

If it wasn't for pintrest, I would have no idea what any of that meant.

Where this is going...

A good high school friend of mine, Stephanie, has such a creative bone!

She has picked up furniture refurbishing and is doing such a wonderful job with it.

Isn't is BEAUTIFUL!

I have always loved those french/cottage china hutches, so after talking with Steph, she ventured out to find me one.

Behold!

This is the BEFORE

Steph has been working away at it and has sent me some progress pictures, and guys, its going to be cute!

I was going to try and tap into my "color" side and do a robin egg blue, but decided to play the safe card and do white/off white.

I can't wait to share the final product!

In the meantime, I have been trying to think how I am going to decorate my new lovely piece of furniture without having my multi-design personality take away from the hutch.

I have decided to make a "draft no. 1" and go from there.

What do you think?

I love updating our home and doing projects, but actually decorating is a bit of a challenge for me.

I don't know how people do it!

I will be pinning and polyvoring (new word!) for the next couple of days.

I have been meaning to up date my "meet the gang" slot, but haven't (oops)

Between NFR and then Christmas and New Years I feel like time has ZIPed by.

So...

What finally got me out of me journal-ing rut?

Well, for the past couple months I have been playing rodeo cheerleader.

Going where my friends go for support and help where I can, but haven't been entering.

I decided to retire my old girl and just let her get fat and be a horse.

She's happy, and I am happy for her but I can only sit out so long till I get that turn n' burn urge

I felt like I was looking for the right horse forever and nothing came up for awhile.

Until...

I have only ONE picture of her...ugh bad mommy.

She's been in training for the past month and continues to do better with each ride.

I am truly excited to see what she becomes and hopes she loves to run cans!
